People have been disappearing from the forest for the past few months.
Lord Felbane has mostly ignored the problem until recently when his revenues began to drop. Whoever, or whatever, is at the root of the disappearances is causing a reduction in the amount blood tree sap harvested.
Two weeks ago, the lord's twin children vanished from their home, and the sheriff and deputies sent after them have not been heard from since. Just this morning, the lord's most favored advisor was apparently kidnapped, leaving a bloody trail leading into the nearby forest.
Lord Felbane has thus commissioned willing scum, and press-ganged the unwilling, to rescue his missing children and his most trusted advisor from unknown forces in the haunting and dangerous Blood Tree Wood.
